something that still sorta fucks me up is the idea that electrons exist in clouds around their atoms.

despite being pretty deterministic, like there's a set number of atoms per orbit and it's mostly dependent on atomic weight and ionic state, the fact that you can't really determine where an electron is at any given time

the action of observing an electron in a given position fundamentally changes it in a way that determines its position. its a lil mindblowing

the really fun part for me is that you can predict their location, but only as resonances in a field. so the cloud is of a very specific shape and that's all you get.
About the closest thing we get to directly locating an electron is observing covalent bond pairs using atomic force microscopes.
