war, transphobia
i guess that pretty much says it all
trans community: rallies round, does what they can to organise humanitarian aid, urges everyone who'll listen not to forget the people being bombed
the mainstream right: blames the war squarely on trans people, without even a hint of nuance. in an alarming number of cases, with even the same words.
folks, this is directed - and a prelude for (more) violent action against trans folk. consider the historical precedents. the fascists here think that the fascists in Russia have given them their chance.
stay safe, stay alert, stay together.
war, transphobia
Katelyn Burns has collated a twitter threadful of examples of today's fascist talking point: https://nitter.net/transscribe/status/1497592340202016769 (nitter.net mirror, sub other mirrors into the URL as applicable)
war, transphobia
and of course Mr Aryan Youth In Middle Age himself, Laurence Fox, has jumped eagerly onto that bandwagon
i have all the time in the world for Kevin Whately's acting, but i can never watch Lewis again :-(
war, transphobia, silly
as for Fucker Carlson's continued popularity... i have no idea why anyone would listen to a man whose staff despise him so much they let him go out in front of the cameras with his syrup on backwards
war, transphobia
she's also written a barnstormer of an article on the same theme:
https://katelynburns.medium.com/no-the-war-in-ukraine-wasnt-because-of-pronouns-c3e3e8f938a3
> If we were to accept the right’s conception of the cultural conflict at play here, that Putin is the strong man defending Judeo-Christian cultural values and Ukraine is the weak, decadent left, obsessed with pronouns, then the pronouns seem to be winning.
well, quite.
...
(also, fuck you and your anti-copy measures, Medium - all i had to do was press Ctrl-C before i let go of the mouse button)
war, transphobia
@thamesynne "Judeo-Christian cultural values" should just be called christian cultural values tbh :^\
@clacke @thamesynne @edwardloveall
I've been wondering for years what Medium contributors make of that $5/mo the company always wanted from me. I don't think they've ever been transparent about that, which is why I ultimately dumped my account.
@clacke thanks! i'll remember that in future
@clacke (well... i probably won't, but i'll try and remember i bookmarked it)
