TIL about the Theremin Cello

the pitch scale appears to be linear, as opposed to real bowed instruments - which probably makes it easier to play for everyone who's not already a cellist ;-) - but what strikes me most is how much it *sounds* like a cello. (sawtooth wave through 3 or 4 strategically tuned band pass filters?)

my bad - the linear scale seems to be a property of the reimplementation being played in that video. here's another, of a more direct recreation of Lev Termen's work
