Was sitting on our back stoop for a little while and saw a bird with an iridescent head walk out from under a bush to go poking about in the grass. I'm guessing a common grackle? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_grackle
In the middle of us watching, they flew up into a tree to yell at a cat that, presumably, had been sneaking up on them. We don't know birder terminology, but I think it was kind of a blat-ish sound.
Fun little moment!

@packbat I have been keeping myself level with backyard birdwatching this whole time. California scrub jays always look like they're up to something and frequently are, mourning doves are basically just high-charisma pigeons, and anything smaller than a scrub jay is a blob of anxiety that may or may not particularly care about gravity.
re: mundaneblogging, birds
@LexYeen sounds really fun to watch!
