otherkin, transition, use of "you" but meant towards the bad parts of human society (so probably not you)

"otherkin aren't valid because they can't/don't transition" is a take I've legit seen around a few times (not recently), so I'm gonna break that one down

obviously, first, it's phobic towards trans people who can't or don't transition

but also. we *can* transition physically, it's just the results aren't good enough right now for most of us to justify it. folks like stalking cat and eva tiamat transitioned. smaller things like ear pointing and split tongues are a kind of physical transition, designed to make us read as nonhuman. we paint our faces, tattoo wings on our arms and sharpen our claws.

collectively, as a community, we've put so much effort into wearables and prosthetics. a fursuit can represent someone's ideal body. so can virtual spaces. tails and ears controlled by a phone app exist now.

we also transition socially. our profile pics, our pronouns, our genders, reflecting our nonhumanness-- getting people to refer to us as cat or wolf or dragon... this is all social transition. we change our legal names, or try to; people have been blocked from using the names they desire by courts that claim it's a delusion, that they'll be harmed by it. still some manage to outwit the courts, modern-day Reynards and Coyotes.

yes, we get harassed for it, and somehow that isn't actually a problem, but means we're less valid because we're funny and silly and we deserve it. you use us as props to beat down transgender people and never ask *why* someone might feel better wearing a tail, because it's ridiculous to you. but it's meaningful to us. many of us would give up on your human societies and live wild if we could, but greed has taken the wild away from us, and your human schooling never taught us to survive in it anyway. you've hobbled us, so we have to live here, among you. but we're not you.

don't tell us we're not transitioning, when living as ourselves is a whole life's work.

@monsterblue I still wish we could properly physically transition. The "can't transition" part doesn't feel like it doesn't apply to me, I just take issue with the "and that means you're not valid" part.

@monsterblue oh fuck yeah otherkins are cool as fuck

@monsterblue fully unpacking "it's laughable because I assume it can't be fixed" just seems so fucking layered that you'd uncover the human genome in the process of laying out down every messed up vindictive neurosis in play

That's like

So many ways to be shitty all working in concert

@heatherhorns @monsterblue deeply wondering what the gibbering hell sort of person has this sort of logic
