Can you help me brainstorm some events that are supposed to happen on a predictable regular cycle, several years apart? In addition to:
* Leap year happens every 4 years. (US Presidential elections are in leap years.)
* You're supposed to get a tetanus booster shot every 10 years.
* Periodical cicadas emerge every 17 years.
* Halley's comet returns every 74 to 79 years.
This is for a project that I'm working on. What other cycles like this can you think of?
Okay so I have tinnitus, have since I was like, eight.
Apparently what you do is: you place your palms over your ears, such that your fingers rest across the back of your neck. Then you gently tap your fingers on the soft spot at the base of your skull (it sound like your head is inside a drum if you're doing it right) for about 20-30 seconds.
Boom. Tinnitus dispelled. (Temporarily).
Me at grocery store: “Lol snapdragon apples. There’s a dragon on the sign! Lol they think I am going to buy these because there’s a dragon on it.”
Me @ checkout buying them: “I wanted apples and they were the closest apples, it’s not because of the dragon branding.”
Me eating one: “This apple tastes better because there was a dragon on the sign and that means it’s for dragons”
Here's a flow chart of how the fediverse works.
You don't ever see all of the fediverse from one instance. The vast majority of what you see is people followed by people on your instance.
Hashtag searches are limited to that, too.
So if you want to make your bit of the fediverse good, you have to:
1) Boost cool stuff to all your followers on other instances, especially if they contain hashtags;
2) Use hashtags.
Added an article about utility bills to the #LowIncome wiki: https://lowincome.miraheze.org/wiki/Home_utility_bills
I added articles about...
#PersephoneDays is a term coined by farmer Eliot Coleman, and it refers to days where you have fewer than 10 hours of daylight. Nearly all plants stop growing during this colder-darker time period.
Looking that up for #Seattle I just discovered our last day with 10 hours of daylight was today, Oct 31, 2019, and we won't get back to 10 hours of daylight until Feb 10, 2020.
Time to put the garden to bed.
My hope this year is to make #NaNoGenMo a thing on the fediverse. If you haven't heard of it: it's National Novel Generation Month. The idea is that people try to write code that writes a novel in the month of November.
It occurs during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and like its namesake, it's actually international.

(@hugovk has been admirably running the event for more than half its lifespan and just joined the fediverse!)
tumblr link to the kin demographic survey results
so there was a survey done a bit ago of over 400 kin folk were asked questions about how being kin relates to their gender; its very interesting!
cissexism, bathroom stuff
Cissexism is such nonsense. Cisgender people go and say things like, “‘Women’ should only mean people who were born with a uterus,” and “The sex organs a person was born with should determine which of two bathrooms they’re allowed to use,” and then they turn around and refuse to put any menstrual products or sanitary bins in women’s public restrooms. Like, is this restroom equipped for the particular needs of a uterus-haver?
Intersex Inclusion Survey; transphobia
The 2019 Intersex Inclusion Survey seeks more people to fill it out, even people who are neither #intersex nor LGBTQ, since part of its purpose is to inquire what people tend to think or believe about intersex people. As tends to happen with surveys like this, a bunch of terfs ended up sending offensive responses to it. It would be helpful to add other voices than theirs. The survey will be open until the end of 2019.
tips for coping with intrusive thoughts
I found this, and it's good, but I'm hoping for more: https://alwaysabeautifullife.tumblr.com/post/188034868677/where-do-intrusive-thoughts-come-from-theyve
(Searching the "intrusive thoughts" tag on Tumblr is a bad plan, because people mostly use it to post their intrusive thoughts.)
