rape culture Show more
I was feeling as angry as an angel about some stuff, so I blew off just a little bit of steam by cramming a whole bunch of politics into my Pinterest boards about fashion.
Why talk about masculine attire without questioning what masculinity is, holding toxic masculinity accountable, and having to figure out a better kind of masculinity to express? How can anyone talk about feminine apparel at all without talking about how much it's dictated by rape culture to the point of being a prison of Catch-22's made to fault women's looks, no matter what they actually look like, or whether that has any real bearing on what they did or has been done to them? Can we create and carry off fashion statements that express neither/both/changing masculinity and/or femininity?
Fashion is gender expression. Fashion is a tool of oppression. Fashion is used to justify violence in rape culture. Fashion can be meaningfully rebelled against and reformed. Fashion is political.
