news: prosthetic tail as mobility aid Show more
Here is a development in prosthetic tail technology, and some new hypotheses about their practical uses.
Researchers at the Keio University in Japan built the Arque tail prototype to explore how tails can have a practical purpose in augmenting the wearer's sense of balance. The prototype has to be hooked up to a power supply on the floor, so you couldn't wear it walking about. However, with miniaturization in the future, such a tail could be used as a mobility aid to help people with balance problems, instead of a cane.
