What the hell is Anthracite posting snippets of today?
FOR THOSE OF YOU FASCINATED BY THESE EXCERPTS: I am playing "Cragne Manor", a text adventure in which every room is written by a different author. It is quite a heck of a thing.
I have beheld the wonders of the Lion Sex Book. I have seen my future in a lukewarm cup of coffee found on a train station floor. I have banished the Only Horse back to the heck from whence it came. I have released at least one nameless horror into the world. I have pruned the heck out of some vines. And I have not even managed to get into the titular Manor yet.
Also pretty much my entire inventory now smells faintly of mildew. This seems to have no effect on anything, aside from making everything even more faintly ridiculous and awkward than they already were.
https://rcveeder.net/cragne/ if you want to suffer this zork yourself.
(As per a suggestion in the Infocom newsletter many years ago, all text adventures are "zorks", and the preferred verb for playing one is to "suffer" it.)
Mastodon: I need your help. I'm in charge of the holiday social trivia, and I want some questions from other religions/culture's winter festival/holy day traditions.
I've got @DialMforMara giving me a Jewish question or two, but there are LOTS of societies and religions with winter or solstice events: Are you a member of one? Would you mind giving me a trivia question so any students or partners who are a member of one of these groups can go "I'VE GOT THIS!"?
(I can't ask the students)

A periodic reminder about my favorite online therapist, Chill The Lion:
I don't think I would have made it through the last year if not for this guy. I'm tempted now and then to start a video stream where I just play with his mane for a few minutes a day. ^_____^
I made it to the Ballard market in time for some painfully spicy cheese, which will help me survive another dreary Seattle winter week. There was a little jazz combo playing for tips. They sang a lyric about Basin Street and all I can think of now is that these guys are about as far from Basin Street as it is possible to BE without leaving the continental US, which resulted in a melancholy little wave of missing NOLA.
I got in a nice groove the past couple days and just posted four new page layouts to Patreon. Feels nice to push the story forwards in a chunk like this. Now to start the lengthy process of finishing the drawings... https://www.patreon.com/posts/23215322
I am generally finding that the parts of Spyro 3 where you control someone besides the titular dragon to be more entertaining than they were in the original. Part of this may be because I've mellowed out with age, part of it may be because I just completely binged on being Spyro through 1 and 2 over the past couple weeks... and part of it may be because Toys for Bob put a *lot* of love into sculpting and animating the other characters.
I suppose I will see how much the last one is worth when I unlock the First Monkey Shooter friend.
This sure is some Dark Web Patterns bullshit. Am I saying “yes” to “send me email to confirm I just bought tickets to see George Clinton next week”, or “yes” to “subscribe me to TSA Pre-Check Except With An Extra Middleman email”? Ugh, Ticketmaster.
Also, I am going to go see George Clinton next week! He’s like a thousand years old now, this should be super rad!
Hello Wordpress 5.0. Hello absolutely terrible new editor designed for laying out brochure sites instead of, like, writing a plain ol' blog entry. Let me just make sure I have the 'Classic Editor' plugin installed before I upgrade.
Sometimes I wonder if it is time to scrap my Wordpress installation and rebuild my site on something newer. But there's seven years of content in it, along with several custom styles I wrote, and I really don't think spending a month or two rebuilding all that shit sounds like a thing I want to do, or to pay someone else to do.
I just spent like ten minutes going through all my installed fonts, then searching Typekit's heavy fonts, looking for just the right font to use for that thing Walter Simonson does where the entire panel turns into the outline of a REALLY REALLY LOUD SOUND. I am pretty sure *one* of these will do the trick.
