Today I was out walking
when I had a brief flash
and saw the people I was passing
as collections of cells gathered together into muscles
pulling against the bones that they grew for some cells to live inside
slithering against each other like a bucket of live eels

And it was kind of beautiful.

Is it time again? Sorta seems to be. I'd boost the old one but it's a little out of date.

Hi, I'm Peggy, and I run dragon.style. If "maintaining a Patreon to pay the hosting, putting off updating it for a year, and occasionally opening the place up for new users" qualifies as "running" it.

I am a trans lady who spends most of her time drawing complicated sci-fi comics and sort of earning a living doing that via Patreon.

Adobe Illustrator has been my main medium since 2000, it's a pretty unusual choice but it works for me.

I used to do burlesque, then pole dance, as a hobby and a way to stay fit. I miss it and should find something similar again.

You may know me from elsewhere as Egypt Urnash.

At long last, I have drawn a label for the galaxy's second-favorite soda, Meh.

Another new page up on Patreon, in which Baron K utters several charming oaths of his native planet that remain untranslated.

This angular jazz album is making me really happy. It is some quality brass noodling. sonsofkemet.bandcamp.com/album

Okay so @arthurwyatt was like GRAWLIX! and I was all YES and then I took out the Asterix to look at some of Uderzo's lovely grawlix and this happened. I am particularly proud of what is obviously "STUPID CAT".

That moment when you just can't decide if it's funnier to try and write some PG-13 swears for a character or to just leave it like this.

I just watched "John Wick". Damn that is a beautifully-made movie. Narratively it felt like watching a really thought-through no-glitch TAS of a FPS and I was completely fine with that.

along with the exhortations to new folks to use content warnings, I would like to exhort masto veterans to be patient with new users, and to *please* include explanations of common abbreviations so the new folks can get a handle on them. examples:
pol = politics
uspol = US politics
mh = mental health
tf = transformation
+/- signs = positive or negative modifiers, so "uspol +" would refer to a story about US politics that is actually good (for a change).

feel free to reply to this with other common-ish examples if you can think of them!

So one of the users on my instance just made a good point: Tumblr chasing horny people off is probably gonna result in lots of underage people coming to Mastodon. And us types should probably start adjusting out instances' terms to say something about whether or not we allow underage people, and what special rules we may have for them.

Personally my initial instinct is to say "we expect you to be legal adults, if we discover you're not then your account gets closed but we're not gonna go out of our way to look if you can do a good job of faking it". Because I was in that space as a teen a few times. But I don't wanna be running penguin.club, yknow?

Quick intro to image descriptions on Mastodon:

- Once you have an image added to your toot...
- ...hover over the lower part of the image to reveal the image description box
- Click in there and tell us what you are showing us with the image!
- (It does not have to be super detailed. It should be accurate. Don't use accessibility tools to make jokes, that defeats the purpose.)
- That said, the user interface is kind of terrible and there's a character limit...
- ...so you can also image-describe in the body of the toot or in a reply!

(Aside: the "Crop" thing is about what part of the image the preview should make sure to show - when someone clicks through, they'll see the full image.)

i did an email i've been procrastinating on for several weeks because i had no energy

i declare today A Success, even if i just go back to sleep for the next twenty hours.

(But "taking a shower, getting dressed, and leaving the house for the first time since spraining my toe the other day" sounds like a pretty good plan too. I'll take the computer and probably get some Parallax drawn.)

people all freaking out about tumblr going down the toilet and "where will people go??" and I'm like "DreamWidth... still exists, and still has all the functionality of LJ..."

Someone on Reddit just PM'd me asking if I'd be willing to do their digital art class project for them. With about eight hours to go ("heck of a rush fee", says the gnome in the back of my head who handles pricing), plus the ethical fun.

I said no, and wished them luck doing something that would at least pull a C.

One thing I keep on noticing as I play through the Spyro games is how much subtle *elevation change* is going on in most levels. It's really very common to follow a path around a curve and only realize it's been on a mild upward slope when you come around and find yourself looking down at a distinctive piece of architecture you just passed through a few moments ago. There's a dynamicism to it that's not there in most 3D games; terrain is either flattened out, or you have stuff placed onto terrain that was probably generated by algorithm. Insomniac really paid a lot of attention to making the journey through each of the levels in all three Spyros an interesting affair, even without the enemies and quests and gems.

You know a character design is going down the right path when you laugh out loud while drawing it.

I just posted a super crazy page of Parallax to the Patreon. Non-patrons will see it in... a month or so, I guess? patreon.com/posts/23056231

I am really happy with how the current page of Parallax is coming together. It involves new backgrounds that look different from every other page so far, and yet i am able to grab styles from the library i made for this project and use them. Or slightly modify them and use them.

It’s taking a LOT less time to draw than I feared it would, and that’s really good. I might be able to hit a pace closer to the middle of Rita than I have so far!

There is still a super crazy spread lying ahead that’s just gonna be a ton of slow technical perspective bullshit. But maybe that one will go faster than I fear once I get into it, too? We will see.

Since a couple people have asked: no, I'm not at MFF. And if there's some other con going on this weekend I'm not at it either. Have a good time if you're doing MFF or some other con. :)
