Holy crap Patreon is stepping back from their new fee structure with one of the best "we fucked up" posts I’ve seen from a company in a long time.
@anthracite I'm honestly more shocked by /this/ than that it happened to begin with. A corp doing something shitty that fucks over their users is to be /expected/. This? I'm shocked.
@anthracite I was pretty surprised too!
@anthracite I dunno. "Creators and patrons," it starts out, and then proceeds not to address patrons at all. The new system did disproportionately impact smalltime patrons, and apparently we're not worth talking to.
@sculpin Mmm, good point. Going back to the old model does of course make small pledges much more viable - which *I'm* pretty glad or, because like 50% of my funding is from $1 pledges.
@anthracite In a technical sense. But as I see it, every person who puts down $1 is not just helping out a tiny bit -- they're putting down money on a vote of confidence.
I have all the free art I could ever need; every pledge is, in essence, a gift of love. But as FoldableHuman@Twitter says, "Friend Patreon is dead; all hail Business Patreon".
I have little interest in Business Patreon. It's not viable for me to be looking over my shoulder to see whether my goodwill is being exploited again.
@anthracite ... dang!
