Today I had to write my birth name on some forms. Louisiana wants their own name change process to happen before I can get married here, since I was born here.
And of course I can’t pay with my card because it has to be from the birth name. Even though I haven’t had any ID or accounts with that name in like 20y. At least there’s an ATM in the court building’s lobby. One last little hassle.
@anthracite: Ask to talk to their lawyer. This tends to convince bureaucrats pushing stupid roadblocks on your way to pull a little bit back. Better yet, in case it doesn't work immediately enough that you actually have to talk to their lawyer, their lawyer won't be able to bill you; they'll bill the bureaucrats' employer.
And now I get to wait an unspecified amount of time in the courthouse for the forms to process through. Good thing I went to the library earlier.
