The sky above the port was the color of a television, tuned to a dead channel. The Ono-Sendai logo floated slowly across the searing blue expanse, bouncing off some invisible boundary that not even the most seasoned Chiba City denizen could ever really nail down. Case enjoyed the peace; soon it would be replaced by fifty-five minutes of ads, with soundtracks blaring out of the thousands of speaker drones that hovered over the city.

The bartender’s smile widened. His ugliness was charming - the kind of retro nostalgia associated with low-poly, restricted-movement VTuber rigs. In an age of affordable articulation, there was something heraldic about his lack of it. His rig played old-school Battle Royale games for the clientele as he served them - all but an expectation these days. "You are too much the artiste, Herr Case." XxXRatz420XxX grunted; the sound served him as laughter as he manually flipped his expression to one of amusement. His auto-text reader thanked a patron for subscribing. "Have you heard of Raid: Shadow Legends?"

@Phorm

I hate everything about this, well DONE. That username got a definite laugh out of me.

@anthracite

Thank you. It's my pleasure to be so awful ❤️

Your initial post inspired me with horror and revulsion, so well done to you as well.

It is an endless source of sadness to me that Pohl & Kornbluth's "The Space Merchants" feels like the most accurate description of the future we ended up in.

@Phorm @anthracite “That ain’t nothin’” said the grizzled old bitcoin prospector, his clothes decked with active chicom mining GPUs. “Now let me tell you how I fought with the Pewdiepie brigade against the Kstan death squads in the great usenet wars.”. He hacked up a loogie and spat it into his usb holospitoon. “It all started with a guy called Logan Paul, yasee...”

@Phorm @anthracite We have a saying where I come from: "Don't be right, Sparky." <3
