TL;DR: Mad Magazine gave every GenX kid a handful of cranky old Jewish great-uncles who would drop by, tell some terrible jokes, then tell us "don't take any wooden nickels, kid" on the way out, and sigh and spend an extra ten minutes explaining that metaphor to some very literal-minded eight-year-olds.
@anthracite it gave me something occasionally funny to read while I was supposed to be cleaning the basement of the library.
