@anthracite Yeah, I ran into this issue last week trying to animate a loading loop. I thought for sure Flash it would handle bendy noodle arms. Nope.

Oddly, After Effects handles this better, but it's also awkward as heck and limited.

@Andy_P I’ve toyed with the thought of trying to do some limited animation in AE but the desire’s never been strong enough to actually drive me to really try climbing far up enough that learning cliff to decide if it’s worth continuing.

@anthracite web-bias but it always shocks me that Flash continues to exist as a product and didn’t wrap up in 2013 or so.

@arthurwyatt It’s always had a second life as an animation package. Not necessarily a good one but one that’s had a moderately reliable workflow for limited animation built around it, with studios of people who don’t hate it quite enough to learn another program...

@anthracite I guess the market is small enough there’s not going to be a replacement, even with the money involved.

@anthracite oh there’s no money, or the money doesn’t go to there.

@arthurwyatt I kinda feel like Flash is JUST good enough that studios keep on using it instead of sinking time into their own 2d limited animation tools. Also there’s a certain amount of sunk cost going on, I mean if I was Pringle I’d have been leery about changing from Flash to something else when switching from working on TTG to the movie they just put out without a lot of budget for retraining and experimentation...

@anthracite I think new ponies movie might be something different too. Certainly a big change in style.

@anthracite I can also totally believe in people building up a set of practices and not giving a shit about the latest whizzo tool to run them on. It isn’t broke keep doing it until the multiple levels of VM you have to run the thing in stop working completely.

@arthurwyatt Pringle said something about “finally something worth leaving MX2004 for” and I really hope he was joking. Except given how glitchy Flash is I can totally see just staying on that.
