Shower thought: I have nuking all my tweets older than three months now.

What if this was built into Mastodon?

Possible enhancements:
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ let the user have toots get set to listener-only/direct instead of deleted
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ maybe an option to mail some kind of archive to the user before they're deleted (make sure this mail doesn't get cached on the instance's side, as an admin I do not want to have to keep track of any more of your private info than I absolutely must)

@anthracite I highly recommend reaching out to @clar and @Satsuma to see if it can be included in the fork they are working on ( @forktogether). We had some trouble being heard by the developer of Mastodon so a big group started to fork. There'll still be interoperability, but different governance.

I'm the meanwhile think @codl made a service to delete toots.

@anthracite I've actually been toying with how to implement a toot expiration feature with more granular options than just "delete anything older than X days". Things like, "don't delete toots with media attached", or "only delete locked toots", etc.

@anthracite Switching toots to locked from public after a certain period of time would be difficult, as it would require re-federating...

@InspectorCaracal yeah, I figure it’s only trivial to implement if the toot edit thing can do that. I really need to get around to upgrading here so I know how that one works offhand.

@anthracite From my understanding, it's less "edit", more "delete and repost with the same toot IDs"
