Shower thought: I have tweetdelete.net nuking all my tweets older than three months now.
What if this was built into Mastodon?
👉🏾 let the user have toots get set to listener-only/direct instead of deleted
👉🏾 maybe an option to mail some kind of archive to the user before they're deleted (make sure this mail doesn't get cached on the instance's side, as an admin I do not want to have to keep track of any more of your private info than I absolutely must)
@anthracite I highly recommend reaching out to @clar and @Satsuma to see if it can be included in the fork they are working on ( @forktogether). We had some trouble being heard by the developer of Mastodon so a big group started to fork. There'll still be interoperability, but different governance.
I'm the meanwhile think @codl made a service to delete toots.
@anthracite I've actually been toying with how to implement a toot expiration feature with more granular options than just "delete anything older than X days". Things like, "don't delete toots with media attached", or "only delete locked toots", etc.
@anthracite Switching toots to locked from public after a certain period of time would be difficult, as it would require re-federating...
@anthracite From my understanding, it's less "edit", more "delete and repost with the same toot IDs"
