So I was at a #furmeet and showing some photos I took at #NJPride and one person went, "Hey, is that <X>?"
Now the person in question (who is #trans) is not someone I've ever known as <X>, but also <X> is something that is very obviously a fursona name, so now I'm wondering if: 1) they just misidentified the person in the photo, 2) the person in the photo has multiple fursonas, or 3) is fursona deadnaming a thing?
Like I had a cis fursona for a while back in the 90s, and now I'm bothered by the idea there may be people out there who still mentally call me by that name
I think 3 is true, I have had people leave my life and come back with a new fursona and my brain just really does not want to change from “skunk” to “hyena” or whatever no matter how hard I try. Which admittedly was never very hard, the reasons I’d drifted away didn’t change much.
@anthracite To be clear, my concern is that <X> may be a fursona from before transition and the person in question is actively avoiding association with it, which means I don't want to ask them about it, but also I'm kind of upset I potentially know about it now, because I hate being made aware of pre-transition identities because I prefer only knowing people as themselves
Ooh yeah that sounds super complicated.
