👉🏾running a central server to keep track of who has reserved what name from what instance 👉🏾forking the mastodon codebase and teaching to be able to continuously update its list of reserved names from said server 👉🏾keeping this fork up to date 👉🏾keeping this server running 24/7 👉🏾convincing other mastodon admins that this is a good idea and they should switch to this fork

(mastodon is open source, if you want to do this *you can*, nobody's going to stop you.)
In the real world, you can distinguish yourself from other people who have the same first name by bringing in your last name; here, your userid has a 'last name' in the form of the server it's on. It's not hard. It's just not like Twitter.
