I played a little of TheCrew tonight (driving game with realistic cars and beautiful scenery, but not very realistic physics.), and one of the modes is delivering crates of illegal whatevers to locations while being chased. Because the game has no offline-mode, you can always join in, or be joined by a few other drivers, either to help, or apparently to hinder...

I start a delivery run, and I'm joined by another player in the game area, and as I'm going along, they suddenly ram me hard, and I lose control... ok, that happens sometimes, maybe they're not very skilled or *RAM*... umm... ok, this is gonna make things a bit more difficult *RAMMMMM!!!*...

... and the delivery is over and failed very qvickly, making me lose a few in-game credits (not actually a big deal, just annoying)... then the screen reverts back to the normal game mode, and when this happens any cars that were involved in the delivery sub-game appear in the same intersection... and then the ramming begins again...

I put down the controller, and the person proceeds to just ram me over and over for literally the next solid three minutes. I'm not touching anything or giving any response, but they've apparently decided that this is the fun thing to do...

I block, I exit from the game, and I just sit here for a bit... not at all understanding the point of the last ten minutes. The damage heals over time, so that's not important. The credits lost can be regained in the normal grind. I'm annoyed, but more confused than anything, and now I don't want to play anymore.

Why... do folks do this to random people? I just do not grok the point of it, at all. Where is the fun in being a jerk for no reason?

I don't get it. I have been playing, and have been obsessed with games for the last three decades, and I don't understand this aspect of players in the slightest.
